Girl Scouts celebrate their 100th Anniversary

On Monday March 12th Mayor Pruitt and the City Council hosted several area Girl Scouts to celebrate their Anniversary. The following Proclamation was issued at that time by Mayor Pruitt.

WHEREAS, City Council of Maypearl is pleased to recognize the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas on the special occasion of the 100th Anniversary of the Girl Scouts of the USA; and

WHEREAS, Believing that all girls should be provided opportunities to develop physically, mentally, and spiritually, Juliette "Daisy" Gordon Low assembled 18 girls from Savannah, Georgia, on March 12, 1912, for a local Girl Scout meeting; from the beginning, diversity was a core value of Girl Scouting, and girls from all cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds were a part of the Girl Scouts; today the Girl Scouts of the USA has a membership of nearly 3 Million girls and adults; and

WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas serves nearly 35,000 girls and 17,000 volunteers in 32 counties in Northeast Texas; it is truly deserving of recognition for continuing a tradition of fostering leadership among all its participants; and

WHEREAS, Girl Scouts is the world's premiere leadership development organization for girls and build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOHN WAYNE PRUITT, Mayor of the City of Maypearl, and on behalf of the Maypearl City Council, do hereby extend special recognition to the GIRL SCOUTS OF NORTHEAST TEXAS on it's 100TH ANNIVERSARY.
